Almost nobody wants us as we are. They want a safe, neutered version, useful, helpful, easy to understand. Nothing wild or outlandish. Therefore nothing truly genuine. And that would be Ok, if not for making us mute. We can’t really open up and talk about unsafe and strange stuff which bothers us the most. All we will get are rolled eyes and changes of subject, or even worse, we could get ostracised. Artists found a way out of this. Metaphor, allegory, myth, symbolism and so on. It’s acceptable, it’s permitted. And everyone can read their own weird stuff in it. Artists make themselves half-mute. People are strange, only pretending to be normal. Poets and madmen know that. I wish we could skip all the pretence and just talk for real.
